Frequently Asked Questions
What time will
the parade really begin, and what time will it reach different points along the
route?
The parade will
begin promptly at 9:00
a.m. at the corner of Lakeshore and Reynolds. The first float should
arrive at Lakeshore and Navy at about 9:20 a.m., the at Lakeshore and Kerr at
9:30 a.m. and finally at Kerr and Stewart at about 9:55 a.m. These times
are approximate, but give you some idea of the time of the Parade will reach any
given point. The further along the
route you sit, the later
it will actually start for you.
What happens if
it rains? Is there a rain date for the parade?
The next
parade date is on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. rain or shine. So dress
for the occasion.
Is the Oakville Santa Claus Parade associated with
a Food/Toy drive?
Yes. Every year the parade is preceded by the
Oakville Firefighters'
Toy Drive, and the
Kinsmen Food Drive for the Salvation Army Jingle Bell Fund. The Friends
of Falgarwood participate each year selling Red Noses for charity. So start collecting your spare change, canned goods and new, unwrapped toys to
bring with you on parade day!
I have my own
business and think this parade would be a great place to sell some of my
merchandise. Can I?
To sell
anything along the parade route, a vendor permit is required.
Vendor information will be available on the site closer to the parade date.
How can I enter a float? Is it free?
First 50 entries will be accepted. Commercial parade
entry fee is $150. Community Group / School parade entry fee is $50.
How do I get information on the
colouring contest?
Who can enter? What is the winning prize?
The Oakville Santa Claus Parade
launches its annual colouring contest in October.
The contest winner rides in the Oakville Santa Claus Parade as Honorary
Grand Marshall on parade day. The colouring contest entry form
is available on the home page and in larger format at all Town facilities.
Does the parade committee provide flatbeds?
Unfortunately
the committee does not provide the flatbed for your entry. All entries who
enter the Parade must secure their own.
Where can I get ideas on how to build a float?
How can I get a float?
Our floats are not built by companies, rather by
individual community groups, schools and Oakville companies (big and small).
There groups "borrow and beg" for a truck or flatbed, decorate their vehicle on
their own. The Oakville Santa Claus Parade does not build floats.
Visit the
Astro Parade site for float
ideas and materials. And check out our
timeline for guidance on timing for
your float. Get planning!
I would like to be a volunteer. Who do I contact?
The Oakville Santa Claus Parade relies on
volunteers who work in several areas. High school students will be eligible to
receive volunteer hours for their participation.
Volunteer
information is available on the site.
How can I become a sponsor?
Sponsors and donations of any kind are graciously
accepted and assist our efforts in presenting this community event.
Sponsor information is available on the site.
Where do you recommend to park?
With a viewing
audience of over 50,000, parking will be limited around the downtown and Kerr
Village areas. Why
worry about parking? Take advantage of the free Santa Shuttle.
Information will be provided closer to the parade date. It will be posted
in the
Parade Day Information section of the site.
Where is the best place to see the parade?
The
parade route
is along Lakeshore Road
and Kerr Street. Both these streets are very wide making any place a great
place to see all the floats and walkers.
Why are plain automobiles not permitted as a float
entry?
The Oakville
Santa Claus Parade is to entertain both children and adults alike. It is not
intended to advertise a company or group. In all fairness to all entries, the
committee strongly advises all entries to
put a great deal of thought, time and creativity
into the design of their entry to incorporate the Parade's theme. This enhances the Parade experience for everyone
participating and watching. |
